Foggy summer mornings in Lincolnville, Maine, I and 40+ other campers and our cabin counselors gathered for morning circle. Part of that ritual was reciting the “Pledge to the Earth,” “I pledge allegiance to the Earth, and the life she provides. One planet, interconnected, with beauty, and peace, for all.” The sentiments of this pledge have been an integral part of my being.
